What is AEO — and why it matters now

More buyers now ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Google's AI Overview “what's the best tool for X?” instead of scrolling search results. The engine reads a handful of sources and writes one answer. If your page isn't crawlable, parseable and trustworthy to that engine, you don't exist in the answer — and your competitor does. Answer Engine Optimization (AEO), also called Generative Engine Optimization (GEO), is how you earn those citations. This tool grades the signals that decide it.

What we check and why

Access — can engines even read you?

AI crawlers allowed
GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and Google-Extended are the crawlers behind AI answers. If your robots.txt blocks them — or the page is noindex — you can never be cited, no matter how good the content is. This is the first thing to fix.
llms.txt
An emerging standard: a plain-text file at your root that hands AI models a curated map of your most important pages. Optional today, but early adopters get a head start.

Machine-readability — can they parse you?

Structured data
Schema.org JSON-LD tells engines exactly what the page is — an article, an FAQ, a product, an organization — so they can quote it with confidence instead of guessing.
Heading structure
One clear H1 and descriptive H2s give engines an outline they can follow to pull the right section into an answer.
Title & description
The most basic machine summary of a page. A well-formed title and meta description shape how engines describe you.

Content — is it worth citing?

Answers questions directly
Engines lift content that poses and answers the real questions people ask. Q&A sections, direct first-sentence answers and FAQPage schema all make you quotable.
Content depth
Thin pages get skipped. Depth plus scannable lists and tables give engines extractable facts to quote.

Authority — should they trust you?

Author & authority
Named authors, an About page and Person + Organization schema are E-E-A-T signals engines weigh when deciding whose answer to trust.
Freshness
For anything time-sensitive, engines prefer sources they can date. Published/updated dates in schema and on the page — kept current — signal you're worth quoting now.

The score is factual, not a guess. We fetch the real page, its robots.txt and llms.txtand grade the same on-page signals engines read — no AI hand-waving. Fix the red rows first: they're the ones keeping you out of the answer.
